Privacy Policy

ExpenSee is built around a simple idea: your spending is your business. This page explains, in plain language, what data ExpenSee handles, how it is handled, and what choices you have.

Where your data lives

Your transactions, categories, and notes are stored locally on your device using Apple’s Core Data, and synced through your own private iCloud account using CloudKit. They are never copied to a server we control.

What we send to third parties

ExpenSee uses a small number of trusted services to make the app work. Only what is strictly needed is shared, and never the totality of your ledger.

• AI parsing. When you type or dictate a transaction, the text snippet (for example, “coffee at Starbucks for $4.50”) is sent to our AI gateway, which routes the request to a large language model to extract structured fields (amount, merchant, category). The snippet is processed in transit and not retained for model training.
• Exchange rates. When you change currency, ExpenSee fetches public exchange rate data from our backend at expensee.minghe.me.
• Subscriptions. If you upgrade to Premium, the purchase is processed by Apple via StoreKit and reconciled by RevenueCat using your anonymous app user ID.
• Crash reports. ExpenSee uses Sentry to receive crash and error reports. Reports include device model, OS version, and a stack trace — never your transactions.
• Anonymous analytics. ExpenSee uses Mixpanel to measure aggregate feature usage (for example, “how many users opened the calendar this week”). No transaction content is sent.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not show third-party advertising.
• We do not access your contacts, photos, or location in the background.
• We do not store your transactions on servers we control. iCloud sync is between your devices and your iCloud account.

Your choices

• You can disable iCloud sync from the system Settings app at any time.
• You can delete the app to remove all local data. iCloud copies live in your iCloud and can be removed from Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
• You can opt out of crash reporting and analytics from the app’s settings.

Children

ExpenSee is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
